====== What is the process for changing my domain name? ======
**If your site is already live**
  - Buy the new domain name. (you need to own a domain before you ask us to change it) 
  - Go into your domain registrar and point the nameservers of the new domain name to our nameservers.  Now both of your domains will be pointing to our nameservers.
  - Submit a ticket to [[https://www.realgeeks.com/support/|support]] requesting the domain change.  Be sure to include the domain you are changing to.
  - Once the change has been made on our end, go your registrar's control panel and set up a **301 permanent redirect** from your old domain to your new domain after the new domain is live. If you need help with this, you may ask your domain registrar for assistance.

**If your site is not live** 
  * Let [[https://www.realgeeks.com/support/|support]] know which domain to you want it changed to and we'll change it on our end. 
  * You will see the change when you take your site live. 
  * To edit your site, continue to use your development site.
  * **Reminder: If you push your site live before getting IDX approval, your searches and contact widget will not work.**

**A setback of changing your domain name:**

  * If you don't do a 301 redirect from your old domain to your new domain, you will lose traffic on your old domain.
