====== How to verify your site in Google Search Console (formally Google Webmaster Tools) ======

Once your site is live, log into your [[https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/|Google Search Console account]].

Make sure you log in with a Google account.  Usually these are emails that end in @gmail.com but if your company is using google apps they might end with your company's domain name.

**Note: Your site must be LIVE in order for the verification to work.**

Verify your site by adding a meta tag
  - On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the URL prefix option on the right.

  - Enter your entire URL. For example:

https://yourlivesite.com

  - Click Continue.
  - Select HTML tag option

Please send us this tag in an email and we will add it to your site. You can then press verify!

If the site does not verify immediately, wait a couple hours and click verify again.  There could be a delay on Google's end on the verification.
